Email from October 28th 2013

Hello, Everyone!  :D
So, this week was amazing!  :D  We got to take Fabrizzio to a Baptism this past Saturday in Roma 1.  It was really nice, we got to take the metro with him from Lido Centro, all the way to Cornelia.  It was really fun because he is always so impressed with how friendly we are and about how we are always talking to other people.  By the end of the evening, he had asked for some biglietti and followed our example to hand them out!  Fabrizzio is a miracle, guys!  So the baptism was really great, but I feel like I spoke sooooo much Italian on Saturday and my brain was fried by the time we had to say goodbye to Fabrizzio.  I really enjoyed talking to so many different people though on the way to the baptism.  Gah!  You gotta love the Missionary life.  J  So, at the Baptism, I got to see some of my buddies from around the Mission!  :D  It was tons of fun, and Fabrizzio was really touched by the ceremony.  When Angelo was baptized (a man who was taught by the Roma 1 Anziani), he was overcome with emotion and hugged the man who had baptized.  This was really significant for Fabrizzio, and he said that the whole thing was “beautiful.”  We are really looking forward to the day that he will get baptized. J  Oh!  And, btw, his date got changed to the 9th of November because we had to figure out if we could have a portable Baptismal font in Ostia or not- thus they did not announce it in church and so we had to change his date.  Which is totally fine for everybody though!  Especially Fabrizzio, because he wants a bit more time to prepare.  Man, we are so blessed to be a part of his miracle story!  It wasn’t even us at all, just Fabrizzio looking for the right path in his life.

Soooo, other than that, I love my companion.  J  She is soooo cool, so chill, and I feel like we are really good buddies.  She and I love to eat and to go to Restaurants, and the like, so we are pretty d’accordo in that respect.  She is also really on the ball, and I feel that we are a really good team together.  Sister Kimball is just the coolest!  :D

Also, I loved all of your guys’ e-mails.  J  I look forward to reading them every week.  I really love Andrew’s stories about how good things are going for him and Emma (I think that is her name J)  And I also like the Seminary recounts from Ma, and the VW and housecleaning notes from Dad.  I just love you guys soooo much!  :D  And I also look forward to Shelby’s e-mails every week because I can tell that she is so strong and has such a strong Testimony.  All of you guys do!  You rock!  XD  PS- Andrew, I am SOOOOO proud of you times 10000000 for getting your football position back!  Woo hoo!

Yesterday in church was realllllly nice as well.  :D  I got to see all of my usual peeps, Fabrizzio had his intervista for the battesimo, and after church, I made some bread (thanks for the tradition, Sorella Spicq!  ;D) and some risotto (I am the risotto maestra) for Sorella Kimball and I.  Dopo quello, siamo andate da Sorella Alicino, who is always soooo hilarious!  XD  She will be one of the first people who I introduce my family to after the mission!  Gah!  I love her!  I love Ostia!  :D  ANNND I love being a missionary!
After going over to Sorella Alicino’s, we went over to Marconi (BEAUTIFUL place!  :D  and sooo diverse; there are people there from all over the world.) to bring Rona some bread and walk her to her work.  It was a really nice walk; we really enjoyed it.  It was just a great night.  J  And, today, we had the coolest, most relaxed p-day I have ever had!  It was sooo chill.  We just took the metro a few stops down to go see Basilica Sao Paolo where people think we are nuns (as always) and they have an old baptismal front for the dead.  I had already been there before, but I wanted to see more of that part of the city and to show Sister Kimball around some more.  It was a really nice morning.  We got some gelato too!  We went to a gelateria where the lady who was working there had gone to Cambridge!  I love Cambridge!  XD

Great week, great day, awesome weather, and lots of really good food and experiences.  I love all you guys, and I hope that you have a great week!  :D

Corey's Email from 10/21/2013

I will probably be writing quickly this week because I have some important emails I would like to respond to.  BUUUT, this week has been the craziest!

I am now companions with SORELLA KIMBALL who is so sweet and very chill.  I really like that about her.  :)  We have been having a fun time trying to get into the groove of things, and I have enjoyed showing her Ostia.  :)  This week, we saw Fabrizzio again, and we taught him "La Legge di Castità" which is the Law of Chastity.  It went really well, and was really kind of funny actually.  We had a member with us, Fabrizzio Romeo, and it went nicely!  Lol, when we pulled out the Opuscolo, Fabrizzio started laughing and said, "I am chaste!  I may have smoked in my life and done other things, but I have always been chaste!"  It was really funny!  But we for sure had the spirit there after that and we were able to explain things simply and by the Spirit.  He accepted the commitments %200 to live the law of chastity and to continue to live the Word of Wisdom.  He is really an outstanding person.  We are bringing him to a baptism this next Sabato so he can see how it all happens and feel more commodo with it all.  It will be great! :)

Also, we saw Odile this week in Marina di Ardea (LOVE THAT PLACE!  XD). We shared a beautiful lesson with her about the Restoration and the priesthood.  It was really nice because we were able to address her concerns about being baptized a third time (first it was catholic, then Evangelist, and now Mormon!) We still have some work to do in regards to explaining better why the Restored Priesthood is so important, ma penso che ce la facciamo!  I am really excited to invite her to the baptism this Saturday that we are taking Fabrizzion to.  :)

ANNND,  haha...  On the way back from Odile's, we were waiting for a bus, right? Well, we took the advice of Odile, and these guys we met at the fermata (Pino- and older Italian man, and Aziz- a middle aged man from Morocco) to get on the first Cotral that came.  We did so, and... ended up being on the road to Napoli instead!  Holy cow, scary stuff... Well, we got off the bus in this tiny town with old buildings and cobblestones at about 9.30 at night...  Because we found that we were not on the right bus.  We called the APs who called president who called us and eventually asked us, "Do you have investigators who are coming to church tomorrow?" We responded that we would.  He then said, "I'm getting in my car."  I seriously have the BEST, most loving, awesome Mission President and Mission "Mom" in the entire world!  We took a bus to Anagnina (Roma 3 bounds) and they picked us up around 11pm, bringing us back to Ostia.  They are the best!  And me and Sorella Kimball realized that without the mistake we made, we would not have been able to meet Pino and Aziz.  Pino seems very interested in the Gospel and wants to see us this week! :D  And Aziz wants to give me a copy of the Koran!  That would be so cool!  Pino has already called us and we have Aziz's number!  Vediamo, amici!

Sooo, other than that, we got to go with Julissa yesterday (after we got to sing in church with the GANs-young single adults) to see the Blas and Agomeri families :)  It was soooo fun!  Especially since we got to sing the primary hymns together so the kids there could practice for the upcoming mini concert they will have in church :)  It was tons of fun.

Well, I love you, famiglia!  And I hope all is well for you guys.  I know that this church is true and that the more I share my joy with other people, the more my joy grows.  Every day I see this joy grow, and I know that I am happy because I have Jesus Christ in my life.

Alla Prossima Settimana!

Staying in Ostia!!!

We got transfer calls, and I am staying in Ostia for another transfer with Sorella Kimball who is coming up from Sicily. :)  I hope, pray, and know that it will be a good transfer.  :)  I will really miss Sister Spicq though.  :(  I hope to see her in Francia after my mission!  That would be so great.

It just means that I will have been here for 6 months after this next transfer is over!  :D  HOLY COW!  It is kinda like Brinkerhoff in Clearlake! Lol, I think about that all the time.  He was such a good example to me. :)

And I totally called that one: we all knew Brother Throop and Sister Cossel would get married!  Lol, so awesome.  I know they will be so happy together.  :)  Tell them that Sister Cherrington sends a grande abraccio and tanti auguri!  (A big hug and congratulations) :D

OH!  And our golden investigator, Fabrizzio, is getting baptized on the 2nd of November!  (Aka-Dad's Birthday!!  :D)  I am so excited for him!  And when President and Sorella Waddoups came to our ward for church yesterday, President talked to Fabrizzio and Fabrizzio told him that us missionaries could write President a couple days before Fabrizzios baptism to invite Pres!  :D  I am sooo excited for all of this!  Yay, Fabrizzio!

Rene is progressing a bit slower now adays, and we are not sure if he is still interested in joining the church.  We have tried to determine the purpose of our teaching him, but he just agrees with everything and... yah, lol.  He came to church yesterday though, so that is a grande step!  :D

SOOOO, Fabrizzio also told us that October is the most beautiful time of the year in Roma.  :)  I am very excited to be here for it and also excited that I fulfilled my promise to Alessandra that I would stay in Roma for the whole Summer!  :D  And I am so glad that I did.  I really love Rome, and Ostia feels like my second home now.  And, I'm telling you guys, (famiglia) we've gotta get out here after my mission so I can show you around Ostia and you can meet my fantastic member friends!  :)

WHICH...  everyone was so happy to hear that I am staying!  :D  Man, I love the members here...  They are just the coolest!  :)  Especially Teresa was happy that I am staying here.  :)  I really love her.

well, sorry for the brevity of this week's email; I am hoping that the pictures will say it all for this week.  :)  Ciao for now!  :)

Love,
Sorella Corey Cherrington

October 2, 2013 Blog post

Hello, famiglia!  :)

We had such a great week this week!  I just don’t know where to start.  Well, yesterday there was a sciopero (strike), which is when the metro shuts down and a lot of the buses shut down with it for several hours during the day.  It was really interesting because we did a scambio during the strike, and me and Sister Fuller had to take a blue bus from Lido Centro to Fiumicino Airport to then take the train that would take us nearest to Laurentina.  It was actually lots of fun to have to figure out an alternative route.  I really enjoyed it.  :)  And our scambio went great!  We almost didn’t do it because of the strike, but we persevered and went ahead anyways. I am glad we did too because when Sister Fuller and I went to the park to do some finding, we ran into this lady that Sister Fuller met the last time she had come to Ostia!  Meraviglioso!  And afterwards, Sister Fuller was able to give spot on advice to one of the people we saw later that night.  The Sorella to whom she gave advice said many times, "It was not by mistake that you came here on this scambio.  It was really cool to see this happen.

PLUS!  We ate at Angela’s house (one of the members here) after we practiced a plan of Salvation lesson on her and Angelo! (It was really a miracle because Angelo never agrees to hear the lessons, but this time, he stayed!)  Her husband, who is not a member but knows tons about the church, and has a butcher shop in Laurentina, cooked for us some really cool Roman dishes.  I am not sure what it was called, but he made this really amazing plate from cow’s tail that was kind of like a stew.  He said he got the cow tail from an old lady and he cooked the soup for several hours just so we could try it!  He and Angela are so cool.  And Angelo calls me "amica" sempre because we are buddies. :)  I love their family.  And Sofia!  She is just the coolest.  I played this game with her that kids play here (not sure of the name)  and she beat me four times!  Che brava!  ;)  I love her.

Annnnd, the weather has been soooo good lately.  :)  But I am soooo tired!  Lol.  But I just have to remember that, when I show Heavenly Father that I have the desire to work hard and to do His will, I get the strength that I thought I didn’t have before.  It is really amazing.

Then, there is RENE!  Che grande!  He speaks French and Italian, and he is originally from the Dem. Rep. of Congo, but has lived in Italy for several years now.  He says "Oo-la-la!" A lot and has a really strong testimony of God's love for him.  He had a baptismal date before Sister Spicq and I were in Ostia, and he said the other night that he would still like to get baptized.  He just says that he wants to be 100% ready for it.  And I completely agree; we just need to show him how to prepare and let him find for himself when or if he wants to make the necessary changes in life to be baptized.  He is a really awesome person, and I can’t wait to see him again!

OOOOOHHH!!  Then there is our lovely bar Siciliano.  :)  We went after English course to get some p-day eve Gelato and to say hi to Alfonzo and Marco.  It was all good and we even got to give a short English lesson to Alfonzo!  It was really nice.

I have sooooo much else I could say, but I lack the time to tell you.  :)  Love you guys, have a great week!

Con cuore,
Sorella Cherrington
